Happy new week friends,
I look forward to sharing with you Brilliant and Excellent tips for attaining your goals, fulfilling your Purpose and making the world a better place.
Not everything in life is at it seems, many things are more symbolic than factual. One of the examples I’ve been considering in the past week is the tower of Babel. This story is recorded in the Bible in Genesis 11:1-9 where it describe how people spoke one and the same language throughout the earth and as they moved from the east, they settled in Shinar. There they made bricks and built a tower with the aim of it reaching the heavens.
They did this in order to make a name for themselves so that they would not be scattered over the world. As they began to build, it was recorded that God came down, saw what the sons of men were doing and scattered them over the world. The building stopped and the city was called Babel.
I thought about this story and I’ve been forced to rethink this story as perhaps more symbolic than literal. How do you logically explain a group of people coming together to want to build a physical tower that would reach heaven? Even if God didn’t come to scatter them, everything in the environment would be working against them. The sun would be their first hindrance, its heat and scorch would keep them at a certain level, the cold at high altitude would be another hindrance forcing them to stay within a certain level. How do they also plan to maintain the tower? Would they have an elevator system to take them up and down the tower? Obviously, the tower of Babel seemed impractical to me from the start and eventually may have been an abandoned project. The other way to look at the story therefore is what the story teaches or symbolises as against what it says literally.
Could it be that the story was told to describe the endless possibilities that could be opened to man once he decides to unite? The phrase, “now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do” further emphasizes that once people come together to agree on a thing, they can achieve it and nothing can hold them back except themselves.
There is power in Unity
The obvious Power of Unity according to the story of Babel is that when people are in unity, there is nothing they cannot achieve. Their minds are in sync and somehow, they begin to see each other’s thought. Unity is a force that allows impossibility possible, so the next time you need to work on project, find someone to partner with you to make it happen.
