“Legacy is not leaving something for people. It’s leaving something in people.”
Happy new week friends,
I look forward t sharing with you Brilliant and Excellent tips for attaining your goals, fulfilling your Purpose and making the world a better place.
Going through one of the lessons in the YouVersion with a group of friends, I discovered the dire need of living a legacy behind. According to the writer, Gregg Matte, he mentioned that the most popular form of graffiti in the United States is ‘I was here, I made a difference, there was a man…’
Making a legacy is about making a difference, a good difference. Building a powerful legacy is all about sustainability. The difference you decide to make will not count if it is not sustainable. Imagine Mary Slessor, successfully stopping the killing of twins while she was alive but the practise continued as soon as she died. Although she would have made a really good difference with her life but it wouldn’t counted as meaningful.
Legacy is not about just being known and famous and amassing a large number of followers, it’s about what happens after your are gone. Social media can be used as a tool for making a good difference because your voice can be heard in many part of the world. Every minute of every day, the decisions you make all adds up to your legacy and ultimately reflect your values.
What legacy do you want to create?
Creating a long lasting, powerful legacy doesn’t happen by accident, it involves careful thoughts as well as asking yourself the right questions.
- What message do I consider most valuable that I want to use my life and my voice to speak about to the world.
- If I only had ten more years to live, what things would I consider priority, what values would I not take for granted?
- What would I rather that people say about my life when I’m no more.
What prevents us from laying a right legacy?
Greed is one of the barriers to building a legacy. We rather invest our resources, time and money into unsustainable wealth. Selfishness also diverts a good project for personal gains. Selfishness is difficult to give back because it is always thinking of self. Selfishness cannot achieve a legacy worth anything meaningful.
So many us also do not have the big picture in mind and as such they are only willing to invest in what can last them in their life time. They are not opened to opportunities and partnership that brings sustainable wealth and leaves a good legacy.
