People have come and left this world, yet their names aren’t forgotten. Some of them lived in the dark ages, but their works of light remains even after them. The roads to a lot of relative advantages we enjoy this day way were paved by heroes and heroines in their classes and calibers.

Mother Teresa died more than two decades ago, yet her deeds of activism and the lending of her voice to causes bigger than her and the world at that time made her being remembered. She grew famous for humbly ministering to lepers, the homeless and the poorest of the poor in the slums of Calcutta (otherwise known as Kolkata), India. She was conferred a Nobel peace prize in 1979 and then proclaimed a saint by the Catholic Church in 2016.

Mary Slessor was one foremost culture changer. She was not but put her life in line to fight against this practice of infanticide of twins in the 19th century. Can you imagine the generations she practically saved from ruin and destruction even on arrival? There are deeds that outlives one indeed.

There was Fela Anikulapo Kuti who in the face of oppression and tyranny kept his voice night in every possible way to kick again bad leadership and authoritarianism in Nigeria. His songs were reflections of his innermost intent and he’s been remembered until this day. He’s basically one of the few Nigerian legends whose post humus birthday are being celebrated followed by Nnamdi Azikiwe.

Impact is not accidental. It is an intentional action geared towards blessing and influencing a generation. These ones and many more bared the pain, time, inconveniences, pressures, failures and still went on to leave a mark that would outlive them. These kind of legendary acts is everywhere including innovations and inventions. The list is endless, Plato, Aristotle, Albert Einstein, Isaac Watts, Steve Jobs, the men who built America and the ones who liberated Africa; likes of Kwame Nkrumah, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nelson Mandela, Patrice Lumumba, Walter Rodney etc. We have legends in science, art, music, football, business, politics, military, missionaries, et all. They all had one thing in common, they lived a life different from the norm. They challenged existing statuesque without looking back just as we have living legends in this 21st century whose works and innovation will surely outlive them.

Today we remember a lot of people for their works, services and inventions, I put it to you without mincing words, what will you be remembered for? What do you want people to say about you? Have you lived a life worth emulation and respect? How have you impacted your close cycle? How have you impacted your coworkers? How have you impacted your family members? Have you impacted your society? What is your legacy?

We have a lot of the so called celebrities in the present world who are just living life of shadows and the wave of social media, pressures and unnecessary life expectations are making young people lose their gaze on what’s worth living for. You may have heard of these quotes, “You haven’t really lived until you’ve done something for someone who can never repay you” and “You haven’t really lived until you’ve found something worth dying for”. I call them basic mottos of living a life that blesses generations.

I put it to you again, what do you want to be known and remembered for? If you desire an impact that outlives, your legacy should be every lives you’ve touched.
